Household Water Softener One Operating and One Standby in Mongolia
A residential customer in Mongolia required a robust water softening solution to ensure water quality for domestic purposes. Our dual-tank softening system was engineered to eliminate any downtime. It automatically switches between units to provide a non-stop supply of softened water, effortlessly sustaining the full 12-ton daily flow required for continuous household use.
1. Project Overview
-
Location: Mongolia
-
Application: Single-family household
-
Key Requirement: Continuous supply of softened water, 24 hours a day.
-
System Capacity: 12 tons (12,000 liters) per day.
-
Core Challenge: To ensure zero downtime for water softening, even during the control valve's regeneration cycle.
-
Solution: A duplex "One-in-Use, One-on-Standby" water softening system.
2. Background & Problem Analysis
Mongolia's climate and geology often result in water sources with high levels of hardness minerals (Calcium and Magnesium). For a household requiring a consistent 12-ton daily supply, a single water softener is insufficient. The primary weakness of a single softener is its need to periodically enter a regeneration cycle.
•Regeneration Cycle: This is a process where the resin bed inside the softener is cleaned with a brine (salt) solution to restore its ion-exchange capacity. During this cycle (which can take 60-120 minutes), the softener cannot produce softened water. It either stops output or outputs hard water.
•The Problem of a Single Unit: If the household's water usage is continuous, the regeneration cycle would cause a direct interruption in the supply of softened water. This is unacceptable for applications like continuous heating systems, high-end appliances, and consistent comfort.
3. Solution: Duplex "One-in-Use, One-on-Standby" System
This system employs two identical water softeners, plumbed in parallel. Only one unit is active at any given time, while the other is on full standby.
System Configuration:
•2 x Water Softeners, each with a capacity rated for more than 12 tons/day to handle peak flows.
•Valving: A three-way motorized valve at the inlet and outlet to direct the water flow.
•Brine System: A shared or individual brine tank for salt.
4.Performance Results
- Post-treatment water is clear, odor-free, and meets the client’s household use water standards.
- Fully automatic operation reduces the need for manual intervention.
- The system is designed for durability, ease of maintenance, and consistent performance.
5.Client Testimonial

An IBC (Intermediate Bulk Container) tank is a robust, reusable industrial-grade vessel designed for the storage and transport of liquids, powders, and granules. Its space-efficient cubic shape and integrated pallet base make it ideal for easy handling and stacking, offering a cost-effective solution for bulk quantities.
UV Water Sterilizer Systems are advanced water purification devices that utilize ultraviolet (UV) light to eliminate harmful microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, and protozoa from water. These systems are highly effective, environmentally friendly, and do not require the use of chemicals, making them a popular choice for both residential and commercial applications. UV sterilizers are often used in conjunction with other filtration methods, such as reverse osmosis or carbon filters, to ensure comprehensive water treatment. They are easy to install, require minimal maintenance, and provide a reliable method for ensuring safe and clean drinking water.
A water softener is a specialized filtration system designed to remove hardness-causing minerals, primarily calcium and magnesium, from water. Hard water can lead to scale buildup in pipes, appliances, and fixtures, reducing their efficiency and lifespan. By using an ion exchange process, water softeners replace these hardness minerals with sodium or potassium ions, effectively softening the water.
Water softeners are widely used in residential, commercial, and industrial applications to improve water quality, enhance appliance performance, and prevent plumbing issues. Softened water also provides benefits such as better lathering of soaps and detergents, reduced soap scum, and improved efficiency of water heaters and other appliances. With their ability to extend the life of plumbing systems and reduce maintenance costs, water softeners are an essential solution for managing hard water problems effectively.
